I am a person-centered, strengths-based therapist.
I believe that you are the expert on yourself and you have the capacity for positive change, I am here to help you work through the challenges that keep you from feeling like yourself and living the life you want. I walk alongside people as they move towards their goals and use evidence based therapies to help in the process.
My professional strengths lie in using: EMDR, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
I received my BA in Psychology from the University of St. Thomas in 2008 and my Masters in Social Work from the University of Houston in 2010. Going to school in Houston, I was able understand the valuable resources our city has to offer and learned about people's amazing capacity for growth and healing through Communities in Schools, Houston Area Women's Center, and Bo's Place.
Professionally, I have had the opportunity understand how mental health effects every aspect of our lives - our finances, our relationships, and our health. I have helped people combating co-morbidities of financial distress and mental distress with the United Way of Greater Houston; walked families through caregiving distress and the grief of losing a loved one as a Hospice Social Worker; and worked hand in hand with medical providers, identifying and treating patients experiencing distress in their physical and mental health.
I have presented at national and state level conferences, training other professionals on the importance of de-stigmatizing mental health throughout our communities. I have taught Family Medicine Residents how to identify and treat mental health needs in their patient visits. I continue my love of educating professionals by serving as an adjunct professor at the Houston Campus of Baylor University's Graduate School of Social Work and by supervising fellow social workers to achieve their independent clinical license.
In my spare time, I love reading, camping, hiking, spending time with my family, and (of course) a good Netflix binge every now and then.
